In Nigeria, the Adamawa State Government has entered into a groundbreaking broadcasting service agreement with the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), aimed at significantly increasing the reach of Adamawa Television (ATV) throughout West Africa.
This agreement, part of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s digital transformation agenda known as Adamawa 2.0, allows the state to lease 2 MHz on the Ku-band of the NIGCOMSAT-1R satellite. This new capacity is expected to provide dependable coverage, enhanced availability, and a broader broadcast footprint for ATV, enabling the station to reach a significantly larger audience across the continent.
During the signing ceremony, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Iliya James, hailed the partnership as a pivotal advancement in modernising state-owned media. “This collaboration with NIGCOMSAT represents a significant leap forward in our efforts to enhance Adamawa Television’s capabilities in digital broadcasting,” he stated. “With this agreement, we are broadening our reach, enriching access to information, and presenting Adamawa to a wider African audience.”
Additionally, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Barr. Awwal D. Tukur emphasised that this milestone is a testament to the visionary leadership of Governor Fintiri, who has made digital innovation and e-governance cornerstones of development.
Officials from NIGCOMSAT have committed their full support to help Adamawa realise its broadcasting goals, assuring that the Ku-band lease will facilitate smooth transmission and expansive coverage.
This agreement signifies a transformative new era for ATV as it evolves into a more dynamic and connected digital broadcaster dedicated to promoting governmental initiatives, investment potential, and Adamawa’s rich cultural heritage to audiences across Africa.
