Disney’s much-anticipated live-action adaptation of ‘Lilo & Stitch’ has achieved remarkable success at the MENA box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2025 in the region. Since its release in May, the film has captivated audiences by reintroducing the beloved blue alien Stitch, making waves, particularly in countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, and Iraq, where its Arabic version resonated strongly with viewers.
With its record-breaking earnings, Lilo & Stitch has not only claimed the title of the highest-grossing film this year in MENA but also ranks third highest among Disney’s live-action releases in the region and seventh highest overall for Disney. The film’s dual release—both English and Arabic versions—has been a strategic hit, appealing to families who cherish the original story’s humour and heartwarming themes.
Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, known for Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, the film features a talented cast, including Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, and Billy Magnussen. The production team, led by producers Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin, has successfully reimagined the storyline, focusing on the unique friendship between a lonely Hawaiian girl and a mischievous extraterrestrial, rekindling the emotion of the original 2002 animated classic.
Stitch’s popularity has extended beyond the big screen, resulting in soaring merchandise sales across the region. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait City, and Doha retailers report high demand for Stitch-themed products, reflecting the character’s enduring appeal. In a fun promotional effort, Stitch has even made appearances in malls throughout MENA to delight fans.
As Disney gears up to unveil a slate of major upcoming films, including ‘Elio’ and a sequel to ‘Zootropolis,’ the success of ‘Lilo & Stitch’ has undoubtedly set a high bar for future releases.
