Fresh from the triumphs of the Uganda Film Festival 2025, the country’s film fraternity has received yet another nod of approval—this time from beyond its borders. The Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF), one of the continent’s most respected cinematic showcases, has revealed its official selections, with Ugandan productions making a notable impression.

Uganda’s growing cinematic prowess is reflected in nominations across various categories, underlining the depth of local talent and the increasing international appetite for stories told through an African lens.

Ugandan Titles Nominated for ZIFF 2025:

Short Films

  • Sweet Heist – Directed by Ali Kisitu
  • Boy No Fear – Directed by Jonathan Curtiss

Feature Film

  • Janani: The Last Stand – Directed by Matt Bish

TV Drama Series

  • Damalie – Created by Doreen Mirembe

Documentary Film

  • Memories of Love Returned – By Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine

Each production represents a slice of Uganda’s vibrant storytelling landscape, from evocative shorts to compelling television dramas and poignant documentaries. These nominations not only celebrate the creators’ accomplishments but also signal the growing influence of Uganda’s film industry on the continental stage.

Janani: The Last Stand will open this year’s festival—an extraordinary achievement for any filmmaker and a proud moment for Uganda.

Set to run from June 25 to 29 in Zanzibar, ZIFF 2025 promises to be a powerful platform for African cinema.
