The Walt Disney Company has officially named Angela Jain as the Head of Content for Disney+ in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. Jain, who will take on this newly established role in September, previously served as the Director of Unscripted at ITV Studios. Her appointment marks a significant move as Disney focuses on enhancing its international presence and commitment to local original content. This strategy was recently emphasised during the company’s earnings call.
As head of Content, Jain will be responsible for shaping Disney+’s original productions strategy in EMEA. This includes overseeing commissioning, production management, business affairs, and the acquisition of branded originals. She will report to Eric Schrier, President of Disney Television Studios and Global Original Television Strategy.
Schrier expressed enthusiasm over Jain’s appointment, stating that her leadership will be crucial in executing Disney’s ambitious plan to enrich its local content offerings. He emphasised that Jain’s wealth of experience will build upon Disney+’s recent successes and enhance the platform’s storytelling by infusing it with more localised narratives that resonate with regional audiences.
Jain shared her excitement about joining Disney, describing the opportunity as “irresistible.” She was eager to return to commissioning and collaborate with Schrier and his talented team. Jain looks forward to partnering with the best creative minds to produce exceptional content for Disney+.
Reflecting on her time at ITV, Jain expressed gratitude for the invaluable experiences and relationships she developed while there. Her impressive background in content creation and commissioning spans decades, with notable achievements that include her role as Controller of ITV2, where she was instrumental in commissioning popular shows like “Love Island.” Her earlier career includes key positions at E4, where she contributed to beloved series like “The Inbetweeners” and “Misfits.” With her extensive expertise, Jain is well-positioned to drive Disney+’s growth in the EMEA region.
