Nigeria: Netflix In Third Subscription Price Hike In Spate Of A Year

June 4, 2025

A A

Netflix has announced another price hike in Nigeria for 2025, marking its third increase since 2024. The new subscription fees are as follows: Premium at US$5.38 per month (up 21.4% from US$4.43), Standard at US$4.11 per month (up 18.2% from US$3.48), Basic at US$2.53 per month (up 14.3% from US$2.22), and Mobile at US$1.58 per month (up 13.6% from US$1.39).

This pricing change follows two previous increases in 2024, which occurred in April and July and is part of Netflix’s global strategy to adjust prices regularly. The company stated, “We’ll occasionally ask our members to pay a little extra to reflect service improvements,” indicating that the hikes are tied to enhancements in their offerings.

While Netflix hasn’t explicitly mentioned inflation as the reason for these adjustments, it has recognised that price changes reflect local market conditions, including inflation and tax increases. Nigeria faces unprecedented inflation rates, making entertainment less accessible for many households. In addition, local telecom providers have recently raised data costs by 50%, and the Pay-TV provider Multichoice has also increased prices, causing significant pushback.

Netflix is making similar adjustments globally. Recently, there have also been price increases in South Africa, including a notable 20% increase for the mobile plan. This highlights a broader trend in Netflix’s pricing strategy.
