Eutelsat Expands Partnership To Boost Satellite Connectivity In Africa

Eutelsat and InterSAT have announced an expansion of their partnership through a new multi-year agreement aimed at increasing Ku capacity on the EUTELSAT 7C satellite. This additional capacity will enable InterSAT to enhance its fixed data services across Central and Eastern Africa. In conjunction with this new agreement, InterSAT has also renewed its existing contract for capacity on the EUTELSAT 70B satellite. Furthermore, discussions are underway to incorporate OneWeb capacity specifically for the East African region.

Philippe Baudrier, Eutelsat OneWeb’s Vice President for Connectivity in Africa, expressed enthusiasm about deepening the collaboration with InterSAT: “We are thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership with InterSAT, facilitating their growth across Africa. This collaboration underscores the importance of our robust geostationary assets in providing cost-effective and reliable connectivity solutions to even the most remote areas. We are also eager to explore the benefits of integrating LEO capacity to enhance our service offerings.”

InterSAT Communication Services is recognised as a premier provider of satellite-based data solutions throughout Africa. It delivers Internet connectivity via satellite to key organisations, government entities, and the private sector.

Hanif Kassam, CEO of InterSAT, remarked, “The strategic orbital locations of both EUTELSAT E7C and E70B enable us to achieve extensive coverage and operational efficiency across the region. Our advanced Teleport investments further enhance this solution, providing scalable growth opportunities for our diverse clientele. We are excited about incorporating OneWeb into our service offerings, allowing our customers across the African continent to enjoy low-latency and dependable connectivity.” The EUTELSAT 7C satellite, stationed at the 7° East orbital position, is designed for high-demand African markets. At the same time, the EUTELSAT 70B, located at 70.5° East, provides wide beam coverage, multiple high-performance fixed beams, and enhanced on-board connectivity.
