Zee Entertainment Africa has officially launched its first Free to Air (FTA) television channel, Zee Dunia, in Kenya. This significant step marks the company’s inaugural entry into the FTA market within the continent, aiming to cater to the diverse entertainment needs of African audiences.

Zee Dunia is designed to offer viewers an accessible and cost-effective platform to enjoy high-quality content. Somnath Malakar, CEO of Zee Entertainment – Africa & Indian Ocean Islands, stated, “Our legacy of excellence in production and innovation drives us to support and empower local creatives through collaboration and a commitment to content diversification.

Our significant investment in distribution will enhance our reach and play a critical role in the growth of the media and entertainment industry.” The launch underscores Zee Entertainment’s confidence in the Kenyan entertainment sector, which is recognised as one of the most developed in the region. Apart from delivering superior content, the company plans to enhance the capabilities of local production talent.

Neha Sharma, VP of East Africa at Zee Entertainment Africa, expressed that Kenya’s dynamic media environment and flourishing content creation landscape greatly influenced their decision to introduce an FTA channel in this market. “This launch is pivotal in our commitment to the industry,” Sharma remarked. “We are thrilled to provide holistic, family-friendly programming that caters to diverse audiences nationwide while investing local talent and resources to stimulate economic growth.

Our robust distribution network of 41 sites, through PANG and Signet, will ensure widespread visibility and access.” Through Zee Dunia, Zee Entertainment Africa aims to deliver engaging and enriching viewing experiences to households throughout Kenya, setting the stage for further innovation in the region’s media landscape.
