Nollywood actor and filmmaker Timini Egbuson’s directorial debut, “Reel Love,” has taken the Nigerian box office by storm, surpassing an impressive gross of US$195,781. For five consecutive weeks, this romantic drama has held the title of the highest-grossing Nollywood film.

In a recent Instagram announcement from FilmOne, the film’s distributor, the excitement surrounding “Reel Love” was palpable. The post highlighted, “US$197,739 and still going strong! Reel Love is the highest-grossing Nollywood title for 5 weeks in a row! Thank you for your love and support! Still showing in cinemas—don’t miss out!”

The film intricately weaves a narrative filled with romance, heartbreak, and redemption, captivating audiences from beginning to end. It tells the story of two lovers navigating love’s complexities amidst societal expectations, personal challenges, and unexpected twists. Their undeniable chemistry draws viewers into a relatable and authentic love story.

Combining elements of drama, humour, and heartfelt moments, “Reel Love” has sparked widespread conversations and continued to dominate cinema screens.

The film opened to remarkable figures, earning US$26,430 on its first day, marking it as Nollywood’s second-highest debut—trailing only Funke Akindele’s “Everybody Loves Jenifa.” Over its opening weekend, “Reel Love” amassed US$64,738, quickly securing its position at the top of the box office.

With its outstanding earnings and momentum, “Reel Love” is on track to become one of the top-grossing Nollywood films of the year, and it has the potential to break even more records in the coming weeks.

Directed by Kayode Kasum, the film features a star-studded cast, including Funke Akindele, Dakore Akande, Muyiwa Ademola, Shaffy Bello, Bimbo Ademoye, Efa Iwara, Hermes Iyele, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, and Lilian Afegbai.

“Reel Love” is still showing in cinemas nationwide.
