Orange And Telesat Form Strategic Partnership For Satellite Connectivity

Orange and Telesat have entered into a strategic partnership to enhance satellite connectivity options.

As part of this agreement, a Telesat Lightspeed Landing Station will be established at Orange’s Teleport in Bercenay-en-Othe, France, which will be connected to their point of presence (PoP) in Paris via the Orange Wholesale International Private Line (IPL). Furthermore, Orange has committed to securing capacity for Telesat Lightspeed’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) services, which will be integrated into its broad range of offerings for businesses and telecommunications operators.

Emmanuel Rochas, CEO of Orange Wholesale International, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “I’m truly honoured that Telesat has selected Orange’s Bercenay-en-Othe Teleport as the first European gateway for their Telesat Lightspeed network. This partnership reflects Orange Wholesale’s expertise as a space network operator and our ability to provide world-class ground infrastructure for advanced satellite constellations. We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to expand our connectivity solutions with Telesat Lightspeed, enhancing our network’s resilience for mobile backhauling, crisis response, and remote connectivity.”

Glenn Katz, Telesat’s Chief Commercial Officer, commented on the collaboration: “This strategic alliance highlights our dedication to providing resilient connectivity solutions through our fully integrated space and terrestrial infrastructure. We are proud that Telesat Lightspeed will enhance connectivity for Orange’s customers across Europe, Africa, and beyond in remote areas. Our Telesat Lightspeed solution is designed to meet telecommunications standards, and we are pleased to partner with Orange, one of the largest global telecommunications providers.”

With Telesat Lightspeed, Carrier Ethernet services will offer dependable and robust connectivity supported by service-level agreements. Telecom operators can configure and monitor services in real time and redirect capacity as needed without requiring satellite operator intervention. The network is built with a Zero-Trust Security Architecture, ensuring compliance with the latest industry security standards.

Orange’s Bercenay-en-Othe WTA Tier-4 certified Teleport is crucial in delivering effective connectivity solutions backed by ground stations in 26 countries and territories worldwide. This partnership will enhance Orange’s capacity to cater to customer needs in underserved areas, introducing a secure, reliable, low-latency, and seamless connectivity option to its existing multi-orbit satellite partnerships.

By merging Telesat’s cutting-edge satellite capabilities with Orange’s 45 years of experience providing gateway and connectivity services, this collaboration reinforces the global digital infrastructure’s resilience and promotes digital inclusion in the most remote regions.
