OTT Streaming: FAST Services For The African Marketplace – Opportunities And Challenges

As global trends align with the affordability and accessibility needs of Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) platforms and services, they are quickly gaining traction, offering unique opportunities while presenting distinct challenges for stakeholders.

BMA, as the conveners of the forthcoming  OTT Streaming Summit – Africa 2025 (5th Edition), scheduled for 18 – 19 February 2025 at The Capital 15 On Orange in Cape Town, South Africa, is happy to announce that the industry summit will shine a spotlight on the growing adoption and adaptation of Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) services across the African continent.

Africa’s digital landscape is witnessing the emergence of local and global players investing in FAST services to serve the continent’s diverse audience. Africa’s broadcasters and telecom providers are crucial contributors in driving these services, collaborating with devise manufacturers and utilising FAST platforms to extend their reach.

Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa, emphasised the significance of this dialogue, “FAST services have the potential to transform media consumption in Africa. By addressing the market’s unique needs and fostering stakeholder collaboration, we can build an ecosystem that benefits audiences, content creators, and advertisers alike.”

Convened in collaboration with the Southern Africa Broadcasters Association (SABA) and in partnership with industry-leading companies like Harmonic, Workflow Labs, Immedia and many more, the OTT Streaming Summit – Africa 2025 will feature insights from media executives, advertising experts, and technology innovators on the future of FAST in Africa.
