Morroco: Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Starts Filming On Location This Month

Director Christopher Nolan is gearing up to begin production on his latest cinematic venture, “The Odyssey,” an adaptation of Homer’s iconic Greek epic. Filming is set to kick off this month, with key locations including Morocco, the UK, and Rome, Italy.

Morocco’s selection as a filming site highlights its increasing allure to global filmmakers, thanks to its rich historical ambience and varied landscapes. The country has previously been featured in major films such as “Gladiator,” “The Mummy,” and “Mission: Impossible.”

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring names like Tom Holland, Zendaya, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron. As Nolan’s thirteenth feature film and a follow-up to the award-winning “Oppenheimer,” “The Odyssey” is poised to be one of his most ambitious projects, with a budget reportedly exceeding any of his prior films.

At the core of the story is the epic journey of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who faces numerous trials as he attempts to return home following the Trojan War. The tale is brimming with mythical beings, including Cyclopes and Sirens, divine meddling by the gods, and catastrophic events like shipwrecks. In Ithaca, his wife Penelope contends with a host of suitors vying for her affection, convinced that Odysseus has perished, while their son Telemachus embarks on a quest to reunite their family.

Details regarding which sections of the 24-book ancient epic will be adapted remain undisclosed. “The Odyssey” is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
