Telecom Egypt Achieves Tier III Certification For Regional Data Hub 2

Telecom Egypt has received Tier III design certification for its Regional Data Hub 2 (RDH 2) data centre.

The company said the certification was given following an audit and evaluation by expert teams from Uptime Institute, which specialises in standardising digital infrastructure performance.

Tier III accreditation confirms a data centre’s dependability, availability, and fault tolerance.

The telco announced yesterday that RDH 2 accreditation confirms its commitment to maintaining high data centre standards. This builds on the success of RDH 1, which reached full utilisation in just one year and gained multiple Tier III Uptime Institute certifications.

Telecom Egypt said: “The design certificate ensures that RDH 2, like RDH 1, meets the rigorous mechanical, electrical, structural, and site criteria, confirming that the facility’s capacity and functionality align with its engineering and architectural plans.”

According to the company, an estimated IT load of 4.6MW for RDH 2—compared to 2.5MW for RDH 1— RDH 2 represents “a significant expansion to meet the growing market demand for secure and resilient Tier III data centre services.”

The company said this expansion also enhances Telecom Egypt’s IT infrastructure, offering greater scalability and ensuring business continuity, particularly for businesses transitioning to the cloud.

In addition, Telecom Egypt has registered for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program for RDH 2.

LEED, a worldwide recognised standard, assesses buildings in critical areas like energy, water, waste, transportation, and user experience.

The execution of RDH 2 is expected to be finished by the end of 2025.

Once operational, Telecom Egypt claims that RDH 2 would improve its position in the region’s data centre industry by leveraging the 13 submarine cable systems landing on Egypt’s eastern coast. It ambitions to increase this number to 18 by 2025.

Mohamed Nasr, managing director and CEO at Telecom Egypt, commented: “This achievement reflects our unwavering focus on delivering world-class data centre services that meet the evolving digital economy demands. This expansion aligns with Telecom Egypt’s strategy to drive global digital transformation and connectivity on a broader scale.

“By empowering businesses and communities with cutting-edge technology, we are advancing Egypt’s digital economy while contributing to a more connected and inclusive world. Our focus on sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity remains central to our mission of transforming lives and enabling a prosperous, sustainable future for Egypt, the region, and beyond.”
