Rwanda Govt. And MTN Collaborate To Unveil Connect Rwanda 2.0

MTN Rwanda and the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and Innovation have launched the Connect Rwanda 2.0 initiative, which aims to make smartphones more accessible to people across Rwanda.

As part of this campaign, the telecom company has launched its 4G-enabled smartphone, IKOSORA+. The introduction of this device aims to tackle one of the main obstacles to 4G connectivity access, which is affordability. Through this initiative, MTN Rwanda aims to empower Rwandans to connect, learn, and do business in ways that were not possible before, all at an affordable price point.

According to Ericsson’s Mobility Report, Africa is experiencing rapid growth in mobile connectivity due to consumer demand for enhanced mobile services.

The report predicts that the current mobile data traffic in Sub-Saharan Africa is expected to grow 12-fold by 2025, with mobile broadband subscriptions predicted to account for 72% of all mobile subscriptions in the same year. The report also estimates that LTE subscriptions will triple and reach over 270 million.

The launch of IKOSORA+ was attended by Paula Ingabire, Rwanda’s Minister of ICT and Innovation, who stated that introducing smartphones was an important step forward for the Connect Rwanda 2.0 plan. The initiative aims to foster inclusive broadband access across the country, ensuring cost-effective internet solutions are within reach for all citizens.

With upgraded features, IKOSORA+ allows customers to experience fast internet speeds and the reliability and ease of 4G connectivity. This brings digital services closer to customers, leaving no one behind. MTN Rwanda’s CEO, Mapula Bodibe, believes that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life, and the introduction of this device underpins that belief.
