MultiChoice in Nigeria has announced that the 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) will occur on May 11, 2024, in Lagos.

The event is expected to span two days, from the 10th to the 11th of May, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos State. This prestigious industry awards ceremony will celebrate talents in film production, culture, fashion, music, and other aspects of African entertainment.

The organisers recently disclosed the 10th edition’s activities at a press conference. The AMVCA is an annual accolade presented by MultiChoice that has been recognised for outstanding achievements in television since its inception in 2013.

Femi Odugbemi, Head Judge for the 9th edition of AMVCA, mentioned that the nominees list for this year’s edition will also be out on March 24. The nominations for each category are subjective to specific criteria and processes by the jury in conjunction with Deloitte.

To meet global trends and standards, the award categories have been reduced from 33 to 27. The 10th edition of AMVCA will see winners in 25 categories, including two special recognition awards.

The Executive Head of Content and channels, West Africa, at MultiChoice, highlighted the undeniable influence of AMVCA on the continent’s movie industry. Since its inception in 2013, AMVCAs have injected over US$395 million into the film and television economy, US$5 million in awards events, training, and logistics, and created over 27,000 long—and short-term jobs by developing critical skills and honouring the industry stars.
