‘Four Daughters’ (Tunisian film ) Wins FIPRESCI Prize At Palm Springs International Film Festival

The 35th Palm Springs International Film Festival recently announced its winners, including the Tunisian film “Four Daughters” directed by Kaouther Ben Hania. The film won the FIPRESCI prize, recognising excellence in the International Film Festival Oscar submissions program. “Four Daughters” is also Tunisia’s official submission for the Academy Awards.

The film explores the complex story of Olfa Hamrouni and her daughters in Tunisia, weaving together intimate interviews, reenactments, and confessions. It delves into the complexities of a family history marked by radicalisation and disappearance and was awarded Best Documentary Feature at the 33rd annual Gotham Awards.

The FIPRESCI prize jury stated that director Kaouther Ben Hania “reclaims the cliché of reenactment and reinvents it, emerging with a powerful account of human complexity. This striking blend of fact, meta-fiction and confessional therapy makes a convincing case for the continued vitality of cinema as an art form.”

“Four Daughters” is produced by Tanit Films in association with Cinetelefilms and Twenty Twenty, and it is in co-production with Red Sea Film Festival Foundation, ZDF/Arte, and Jour2Fête. Nadim Cheikhrouha produces the film in association with Habib Attia and Thanassis Karathanos.
