Liquid And Eutelsat Join Forces For Africa’s LEO Satellite Race

July 21, 2024

In a significant move in the race to launch Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite services, Liquid Intelligent Technologies has announced a distribution partner agreement with Eutelsat Group. This agreement is set to revolutionise the market, making enterprise-grade LEO services readily available in Africa.

The Liquid and Eutelsat collaboration follows recent similar agreements by SEACOM, which launched an LEO satellite service, and Avanti Communications, which joined with Q-KON to provide such services.

The agreements come as satellites are poised to play an increasingly vital role in Africa’s future connectivity architecture.

Today, Liquid announced that the strategic integration of the OneWeb LEO satellite network enables its sister company, Liquid Dataport, to provide not only low-latency satellite services but also a network interconnect that enables service integration across the LEO satellite access and Liquid Dataport core network infrastructure.

According to Liquid, this collaboration is a game-changer for a continent where satellite technology is relatively new and limited in its reach. For Liquid Dataport’s customers, it means a significant boost in performance for applications like cloud computing, video conferencing, and real-time applications, among others.

Ahmed El Beheiry, CEO of Liquid Intelligent Technologies, said the collaboration with Eutelsat signifies a milestone in bringing LEO services to customers across multiple African countries, empowering them with high-speed solutions and new possibilities for connectivity.

“Working together and leveraging Eutelsat Group’s innovative LEO services, we can unlock new opportunities for enterprises and communities,” said Philippe Baudrier, VP of Connectivity, Africa.
