In readiness for the upcoming OTT Streaming Platform And Content Management Summit, on 27 – 28 February 2024, at the Capital 15 On Orange, Cape Town, South Africa, Broadcast Media Africa (BMA) interviewed Mr Mlamuli Dlamini – the CEO Of Eswatini TV.

During the conversation, Mr Dlamini noted that the rise of OTT platforms and services had significantly altered the traditional television and content distribution landscape, with huge impact on public service broadcasters – especially those in Africa. This OTT phenomenon is undeniably a game-changer.

Below is an excerpt of our conversation with Mr Dlamini.

BMA: What influenced your decision to agree to participate in this year’s OTT Streaming Platforms and Content Management Summit?

Mr Dlamini: The OTT platforms phenomenon is a game changer in the broadcasting industry and is here to stay. Hence, as the CEO of Eswatini TV, I need to stay abreast and share ideas/ knowledge with my peers as we formulate strategies to embrace it.

BMA: Please tell us how you see the Content Streaming Space in Africa evolving in terms of effect on Production, Distribution and Monetisation Of Content?

Mr Dlamini: In the next 5-10 years, content streaming is going to be the fastest-growing content distribution platform in Africa. This will lead to fierce competition for new content and viewership with traditional TV broadcasters. And lastly, broadcasters in the region have the opportunity to be early adopters and use it to complement traditional TV offerings and maximise revenue.

BMA: In your opinion/experience, what biggest challenge(s) do players in this industry face, and how do you see it being resolved and overcome?

Mr Dlamini: The biggest challenge is the cost and the best solution to meet their client and business needs. The solution is forums like this, where we come together and share ideas and knowledge.

BMA: With all said, kindly tell us what you hope fellow participants will take away from this industry summit?

Mr Dlamini: – As broadcasters, we must embrace the technology (we can’t wish it away!) and learn about the different solutions and how to select the right solution for your business.
