South African Comedy ‘How to Ruin Diwali: Meet the Parents’ Debuts At Number Two On Netflix Kenya

South African comedy How to Ruin Diwali: Meet the Parents has entered Netflix’s Top 10 TV chart in Kenya at number two, marking a strong opening for the title in the East African market.

According to Netflix Tudum’s weekly viewing figures for 26 October to 1 November, the series ranked behind only Lupin: Part 4. Its debut comes after launching on Netflix on 30 October, meaning the chart position reflects only its first few days of availability.

Starring Rosemary Zimu-Mngani and Kyle Clark, the comedy follows Mmabatho Nkomo as she meets her fiancé’s family. The ensemble cast also includes Jailoshini Naidoo, Koobeshen Naidoo, Sonia Mbele, Meshack Mavuso, Luthando “BU” Mthembu, Denise Zimba and Ashish Gangapersad.

The Kenyan TV chart for the week featured a strong presence from established international titles. The four parts of Lupin occupied four of the ten positions, alongside Nobody Wants This: Season 3, A Couple of Lies, The One About Matthew Perry, Doctor X: Mafia in White and The Fall of El Mayo.

South African content also appeared on the Kenyan film chart, where romantic comedy sequel Seriously Single Too placed fifth. Collision Course led the ranking, followed by Surviving Hurricane Otis, Blackout and Animals. Telugu action drama The Paradise, which topped Nigeria’s film chart during the same week, ranked ninth in Kenya, while Gajab Raat took tenth place.

The appearance of two South African comedy titles in Kenya’s Netflix rankings during the same week offers an indication of the genre’s reach beyond its domestic audience. While a single week’s chart performance does not establish sustained viewership, the results provide an early signal of the potential for South African productions to connect with audiences in other African markets through global streaming platforms.
