Netflix has released the first trailer for Stars and Vows: Anele & Buzza, a four-part South African reality wedding special following media personality Anele Mdoda and Prince Bonelela “Buzza James” Mgudlwa as they prepare to marry.
The production will premiere exclusively on Netflix on 13 November 2026, offering audiences an inside look at the couple’s journey towards marriage, with family relationships, cultural identity and Xhosa royal traditions forming central elements of the story.
The newly released trailer explores the complexities of organising a high-profile wedding, including elaborate venue arrangements, unexpected changes and the emotional pressures of bringing two families together. It also features a bridal party trip to Kenya, family disagreements and discussions about how financial contributions influence wedding decisions.
Among the moments highlighted are conversations surrounding an elaborate dome reportedly valued at between R1 million and R2 million, a sudden change of wedding location and emotional exchanges between Anele and Buzza. The trailer also features appearances by Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi and broadcaster Sizwe Dhlomo.
The Eastern Cape provides an important cultural setting for the series, with the production exploring Xhosa royal customs and traditions that shape the couple’s celebrations. The cultural dimension adds another layer to the format, positioning the wedding not simply as a celebrity event but also as a story about family, heritage and contemporary interpretations of tradition.
Stars and Vows: Anele & Buzza was created by Nomzamo Mbatha and Teddy Geldart, with Vuyo Sowah and Petronella Tasara serving as co-creators and executive producers. Netflix first announced the project earlier in 2026 as part of its tenth-anniversary celebrations in Africa.
The four-episode special forms part of Netflix’s expanding African unscripted entertainment offering, using a recognisable public couple and a major life event to combine celebrity access, personal storytelling and cultural representation.
For the streaming platform, the production also reinforces the role of locally rooted personalities and stories in attracting audiences. By centring the series on a prominent South African couple while exploring family and cultural traditions, Netflix is extending its reality programming slate with content designed around a distinctly local experience.
