Facebook Partners With Funke Akindele To Support ‘The Four’ London And Lagos Premieres

Facebook has joined the promotional campaign for Nigerian filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele’s upcoming film, The Four, agreeing to support its world premiere in London and its Lagos premiere ahead of the film’s scheduled cinema release on 11 December 2026.

The film features Akindele alongside Waje, Bisola Aiyeola and Chioma Akpotha. Under the partnership, Facebook will support promotional activities at both premiere events, bringing together creators, celebrities and audiences. A dedicated creator-hosted space will also be established to generate social media content during the events.

Behind-the-scenes material from the premieres will be shared through the Meta Africa, Funke Akindele and Fann TV Facebook pages, extending the events’ reach to audiences beyond the physical screenings.

The announcement does not disclose the financial value or duration of the arrangement. It also makes no reference to film distribution, cinema exhibition arrangements or broadcast rights, positioning the agreement as a promotional and creator-engagement partnership rather than a distribution deal.

Oluwasola Obagbemi, Meta’s Head of Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, said Facebook provides creators with opportunities to reach international audiences, build connections with fans and earn from original content. She added that the company wants to support more creators in achieving success through their work on the platform.

Akindele welcomed the collaboration, saying she was excited to have Facebook involved in helping take African stories to wider audiences.

The Facebook partnership follows an earlier promotional activation on TikTok. On 1 October, Akindele worked with creators on the platform as part of an Independence Day campaign linked to The Four. She has also been promoting advance ticket sales through her own channels since at least the third week of October.

The involvement of both Facebook and TikTok gives the film access to two major global social media platforms during its build-up to release. The approach reflects the growing role of digital creators, platform partnerships and social-first promotional campaigns in marketing African cinema, particularly where filmmakers seek to mobilise audiences across different markets.

The dates and venues for the London and Lagos premieres have not yet been announced. Meta has also not indicated whether the arrangement signals a wider programme of promotional partnerships with other Nigerian filmmakers.
