Algeria Renews Eutelsat Satellite Deal To Maintain TV Reach Across MENA

Télédiffusion d’Algérie (TDA), Algeria’s national broadcasting network operator, has renewed its long-standing capacity agreement with Eutelsat, ensuring Algerian television channels continue to be distributed across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) via the EUTELSAT 7 West A satellite.

Under the renewed agreement, TDA will continue using satellite capacity at the 7/8° West orbital position, which Eutelsat says reaches approximately 70 million homes across the region. The position is a major satellite television hub, hosting public and commercial broadcasters and a wide range of Arabic and international channels.

The renewal extends a relationship built over many years and secures continuity for Algeria’s satellite broadcasting services. As the country’s national broadcasting network operator, TDA plays a central role in distributing Algerian television channels to domestic audiences and viewers across the wider region.

Maintaining the existing orbital position is strategically significant because it allows channels to remain available through an established satellite television infrastructure. Viewers with compatible satellite dishes already aligned to the position can keep receiving services without changing their reception setup because of the agreement.

The deal is framed as a continuation of existing distribution rather than an expansion of capacity or a new service launch. Neither company disclosed the financial terms or the precise duration of the renewed agreement.

For African broadcasters, the renewal illustrates the continuing role of satellite transmission in reaching audiences across national borders, including viewers who may have limited access to reliable broadband or who continue to rely on satellite television as their primary viewing platform. While streaming services are changing distribution strategies, established satellite positions remain important for broadcasters seeking wide regional coverage.

For transmission operators and public broadcasters, these agreements form a critical part of the distribution infrastructure underpinning television services. TDA’s renewal with Eutelsat reinforces the importance of long-term capacity arrangements in maintaining signal reach and continuity across Algeria and the wider MENA market.
