SABC Expands Cross-Platform Strategy With Television Premiere Of Ask A Man

SABC 3 (S3) will premiere Ask A Man, a relationship-focused feature that originated on Metro FM, on 2 November at 19:00, with a simultaneous broadcast on SABC+. The announcement was reported in The Media Online’s Media Moves column on 15 October, highlighting the public broadcaster’s continued use of television and streaming to extend its content offering.

The premiere comes alongside SABC 2’s election-focused programming, including Let Your Voice Be Heard, scheduled for Sunday evenings at 21:30 on both SABC 2 and SABC+, ahead of South Africa’s local government elections on 4 November.

For the public broadcaster, the move of Ask A Man from radio to television and streaming illustrates a cross-platform approach to content distribution. By bringing a radio-originated format to a television audience while making it available on SABC+ at the same time, the broadcaster can test the programme’s appeal across different viewing environments.

The strategy also reflects the growing importance of streaming within South Africa’s broadcasting landscape. As audience measurement evolves to account for streaming viewed on television sets, simulcasting across linear and digital platforms offers broadcasters additional opportunities to reach audiences and assess content performance.

While the transfer of a single programme is a relatively modest development, it provides an example of how public broadcasters can extend the value of existing formats across platforms without necessarily commissioning entirely new productions.
