Africa’s broadcast media sector is entering a defining period of transformation, as accelerating digitalisation, AI, cloud technologies, changing audience behaviours and new distribution models reshape how content is produced, delivered and consumed.
These developments will take centre stage at the Broadcasters Convention – Southern Africa 2026, taking place from 22–25 October 2026 at Avani+ Barbarons, Mahé, Seychelles, where industry leaders will examine how broadcasters can build the capabilities, strategies and infrastructure needed for the next digital decade.
Under the topic “Leading Broadcast Transformation: Preparing African Media For The Next Digital Decade,” the convention will bring together broadcasters, media executives, technology providers, content producers, regulators and other industry stakeholders to explore the forces shaping the future of broadcasting across Africa.
The transformation of broadcasting is no longer limited to moving from analogue to digital. Broadcasters are now navigating a much broader shift involving cloud-based operations, artificial intelligence, streaming, connected audiences, data-driven decision-making, digital content platforms and increasingly personalised media experiences.
For African media organisations, these changes present both opportunities and operational challenges. Building sustainable digital businesses will require investment not only in technology, but also in skills, workflows, content strategies and new approaches to audience engagement.
The convention will therefore examine practical strategies for broadcasters seeking to modernise their operations while remaining relevant in an increasingly fragmented and competitive media environment.
Discussions will explore how AI and automation are changing broadcast workflows, how cloud technologies are enabling greater flexibility and scalability, and how broadcasters can rethink content production and distribution for audiences that increasingly consume media across multiple screens and platforms.
The programme will also consider the changing economics of broadcasting, the importance of local and original content, emerging opportunities in streaming and digital platforms, and the role of collaboration in accelerating Africa’s media transformation.
As the industry looks towards the next decade, the conversation will focus on a critical question: how can African broadcasters move beyond adapting to digital disruption and take a leading role in shaping the continent’s future media landscape?
The Broadcasters Convention – Southern Africa 2026 will provide a platform for that conversation, bringing together the people, ideas and technologies driving the next phase of African broadcasting.
Broadcasters, media executives, technology leaders and industry stakeholders are invited to join the conversation in Mahé, Seychelles, from 22–25 October 2026.
