Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) has suspended Al-Bulldozer, the sports programme hosted by former footballer Magdy Abdelghani on Al Shams TV, after identifying violations during its 19 September episode.
The council, chaired by Khaled Abdelaziz, approved recommendations from its complaints committee on 20 September, including suspending the programme and summoning Al Shams TV’s legal representative.
The regulator also ordered all media outlets covered by Egypt’s media law to prevent former footballers Rabie Yassin and Osama Hassan from appearing on air until its investigation is completed. The measure therefore extends beyond Al Shams TV to broadcasters and other media organisations across the sector.
The action follows an incident during the 19 September programme involving the two former players. Egyptian reports said the dispute occurred live on air, with Yassin leaving the studio.
The case highlights the regulator’s ability to impose measures that apply across multiple media outlets while an investigation is ongoing, rather than limiting action to the broadcaster that aired the programme.
The SCMR has not yet announced the outcome of its investigation or indicated how long the restrictions will remain in place after the proceedings conclude.
