Cameroon Telecom Regulator Orders Operators to Update National Directory

Cameroon’s Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB) has directed all electronic communications operators and service providers to update their registration details in the country’s national directory by 30 September 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen consumer protection and improve oversight of the telecommunications sector.

In a press release issued this week, the regulator urged operators to complete an identification form available through its official website before the deadline.

According to the TRB, the directory is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of Cameroon’s communications ecosystem. It will enable consumers to verify licensed and compliant operators, help identify fraudulent or unregulated providers, and support government institutions in distinguishing legitimate companies during public procurement processes.

TRB Director General Philemon Zo’o Zame said the initiative would provide a clearer picture of the country’s rapidly expanding digital services landscape.

He said the directory would also help build confidence in the sector by distinguishing operators that meet regulatory requirements from those that do not.

The initiative comes as Cameroon’s telecoms regulator seeks to strengthen consumer safeguards while supporting investment in telecommunications infrastructure. The directory forms part of a broader approach to improving transparency, compliance and accountability across the sector.

With the deadline fast approaching, the TRB has urged all affected operators and service providers to complete the registration process promptly, emphasising that the directory is intended to serve as an important tool for digital governance rather than simply another regulatory requirement.
