Senegal and The Gambia are moving to turn their digital partnership into concrete programmes, with connectivity, cybersecurity and digital transformation among the key areas of focus.
The development follows a working visit to Banjul by Senegal’s Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Affairs, Samba Diouf.
Diouf held discussions with his Gambian counterpart and technical teams from both countries to assess progress and agree on an initial roadmap for implementing the agreement.
The discussions focused on identifying areas where cooperation can begin, and both sides agreed to take a practical, results-driven approach.
Rather than implementing all elements of the agreement at once, the countries will prioritise initiatives based on their readiness and the needs identified by both governments.
Connectivity was one of the main areas discussed, alongside cybersecurity, capacity building and broader digital transformation.
The cooperation is expected to strengthen coordination between the two countries as they work to improve digital infrastructure, develop technical capabilities and expand access to telecommunications and digital services.
For Senegal and The Gambia, the latest discussions represent a move from signing agreements to developing practical initiatives that can deliver measurable results.
The working visit is therefore an important step in translating their bilateral digital partnership into programmes that support the development of their respective digital sectors and improve services for citizens.
As implementation moves forward, both countries are expected to continue working through their technical teams to determine which initiatives to advance first and how to deliver them.
