JINAN, CHINA – African culture, arts, and performances made a spectacular appearance at the Shandong Museum on Tuesday, as the Shandong-Africa Cultural Carnival, slated for 2026, was officially launched to the public.
The event, which is jointly organised by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Shandong provincial government, is part of the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges in 2026. The carnival is themed ‘Mountains and Seas in Harmony, Shared Beauty’. It is mainly divided into two sections: the Great River, Great Earth: Shandong-Africa Art Dialogue Exhibition and the lively Shandong-Africa Treasure Bazaar.
People visiting the museum had access to exhibits showcasing ceramics, wooden sculptures, traditional clothes, masks, photographs, geology samples, as well as Shandong handicrafts. In another section of the museum, visitors watched drummers perform as they toured around the 25 stalls of the treasure bazaar.
“I believe this event can better promote Shandong-Africa relations, not just cultural exchanges, but also strengthen China-Africa friendship,” noted visitor Wang Ruo Yi. Another visitor, Qin Lang, added that the vibrant African exhibits, particularly the clay sculptures, left a strong impression: “It shows that the friendship between China and Africa is truly deep.”
While the 25-stall market runs for three days, the main exhibition will remain open to visitors for approximately 20 days.
