CANAL+ has added UEFA’s flagship men’s club competitions to its growing sports portfolio, securing exclusive rights across more than 40 sub-Saharan African markets for the next four seasons.
The new agreement, which runs from the 2027/28 season through to 2030/31, gives the broadcaster exclusive rights to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League, further expanding its premium sports portfolio across the region.
The rights deal has been structured to reflect the different broadcast markets across sub-Saharan Africa. In French-speaking territories, CANAL+ Sport will continue to be the exclusive French-language broadcaster of the UEFA Champions League while, for the first time, also holding exclusive French-language rights to both the Europa League and Conference League.
In English- and Portuguese-speaking markets, SuperSport will continue as the exclusive broadcaster of all three UEFA club competitions, ensuring football fans can keep following the tournaments on the platform.
The deal further expands CANAL+’s sports portfolio, adding Europe’s top club football competitions to a line-up that already features the English Premier League, Spain’s LaLiga, France’s Ligue 1 and leading African football tournaments.
The company said the latest agreement forms part of a broader strategic partnership with UEFA’s commercial agency, UC3. It also builds on a series of recent rights agreements between the two organisations covering several European markets, including France, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria and Poland.
The addition of UEFA’s club competitions further expands CANAL+’s premium sports offering at a time when live football continues to be one of the biggest attractions for pay-TV audiences. It also reflects the growing competition among broadcasters to secure exclusive sports rights.
The agreement ensures that football supporters across the region will continue to watch the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League through CANAL+’s television and digital services until 2031.
