The Broadcasters Convention – East Africa 2026, incorporating the Content Marketplace – East Africa, will convene in Nairobi from 26 – 28 May 2026.

Hosted by the Association of Professional Broadcasters – Kenya (APB-KE) in partnership with the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), and convened by Broadcast Media Africa (BMA), the three-day forum brings together broadcasters, digital publishers, regulators, content creators, and technology providers from across East Africa and beyond

Under the theme “Reimagining Next: AI, Cloud, and the Future of Broadcast Media in Africa“, the convention will explore how artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, and next-generation satellite distribution are reshaping content production, delivery, and monetisation across the continent.

A centrepiece of the 2026 edition is the official launch of the Content Marketplace, a dedicated platform designed to facilitate the buying, selling, and co-production of African content. The marketplace aims to connect local creators with regional and global distributors, opening new commercial pathways for East African storytelling.

Speaking on the significance of the convention, Mr Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa (BMA), said: “The 2026 convention is designed to move African broadcasters from discussion to implementation. Through the Content Marketplace and the partnerships forged here, we are creating a practical pathway for the industry to own its digital future.”

Ms Thabita Mutemi, Chair of the Association of Professional Broadcasters – Kenya (APB-KE), said: “This convention represents a commitment to raising the professional standards of broadcasting across East Africa. As an industry, we must equip our practitioners with the skills and knowledge to thrive in an AI-driven media environment. APB-KE is proud to co-host a platform where that capacity-building begins in earnest.”

Mr David Omwoyo, CEO of the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), added: “As the media landscape evolves, so too must the frameworks that govern it. The convergence of technology and content creation demands robust dialogue on ethics, copyright protection, and digital governance. This convention provides precisely that space, and MCK is committed to ensuring that innovation and accountability advance together.”

Registration is now open. Industry professionals can register and find further details at eab-africa.broadcastingandmedia.net.
