Nile Entertainment Named Theatrical Partner For United International Pictures In West Africa

United International Pictures (UIP) has officially appointed Nile Entertainment as its theatrical distribution partner for the Anglophone West Africa region, including major markets such as Nigeria and Ghana. This strategic move reinforces UIP’s presence in the region and highlights its commitment to investing in the evolving cinema landscape across the continent.

Starting February 27, 2026, Nile Entertainment will be responsible for the theatrical release of films from Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures throughout the region.

Both UIP and Nile Entertainment recognise the significant contributions Silverbird Film Distribution has made over the past eight years in supporting UIP titles and shaping West Africa’s modern theatrical ecosystem.

West Africa is increasingly recognised as one of the world’s fastest-growing theatrical markets. Exhibitors in Nigeria and Ghana are actively investing in modern infrastructure, premium formats, and audience-focused experiences, signalling an exciting resurgence of cinema in the region.

The UIP film slate for 2026 onward features a robust array of global releases from Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures, spanning action, comedy, animation, family films, thrillers, and major franchise titles. This varied lineup is anticipated to boost ticket sales and drive box-office growth in West Africa.

Moses Babatope, Group CEO of The Nile Group, commented, “This appointment is a significant honour for us at Nile. UIP represents two of the most renowned studios in the film industry, and we view the opportunity to manage their titles in West Africa as a privilege that we take seriously. Our mission is clear: to serve our audiences, support our exhibitor partners, and foster sustainable growth in the region’s theatrical market. We eagerly await the opportunity to bring a thrilling selection of releases from Paramount and Universal to cinemas in West Africa over the coming year.”

Cameron Hogg, Managing Director of UIP South Africa, stated, “West Africa is poised for exciting growth as one of the world’s most vibrant theatrical markets. With an expanding audience base, an evolving cinema infrastructure, and exhibitors’ investments in premium experiences, we are entering a promising new chapter. We are excited to collaborate closely with Nile to deliver a strong lineup of films from Paramount and Universal to audiences in Nigeria, Ghana, and the broader Anglophone West Africa region.”

UIP is the international theatrical distribution joint venture between Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures. Utilising its vast global network and strategic partnerships, UIP manages the distribution of films from both studios across many territories worldwide.

Nile Entertainment operates as the theatrical distribution branch of The Nile Group, focusing on Anglophone West Africa. The company collaborates with both global and local studios, as well as exhibitors, to facilitate well-planned, data-driven film releases supported by localised marketing strategies.
