Vilpa Max: A New Streaming Platform Elevating Short Films And Emerging Filmmakers In North Africa And Beyond

Vilpa Films, founded by filmmaker and author Alejandro Vilpa, has launched a groundbreaking streaming platform, Vilpa Max, designed to showcase short films from talented filmmakers worldwide.

Initially available in the UK, North Africa, and the Middle East, Vilpa Max aims to expand further into other regions in the future. The platform offers two viewing options: a freemium tier supported by advertisements and a subscription model priced at £4.99 in the UK and $3.99 in the MENA region. News of this launch was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter back in December.

At its debut, Vilpa Max presents a curated selection of award-winning short films, including the Oscar-winning The Mozart of Pickpockets, directed by Philippe Pollet-Villard; the Oscar-nominated The Red Suitcase, by Cyrus Neshvad; and the Palme d’Or-winning All the Crows in the World, by Yi Tang. The lineup also features notable titles like Poof by Dean Anderson and Love is Blind by Dan Hodgson, both recognised at the Cannes Film Festival. Other highlights include Bienvenidos a Los Ángeles by Lisa Cole, which was shortlisted for the 96th Academy Awards, and Nocturne in Black, a short that has found success on the international festival circuit.

Alejandro Vilpa expressed his vision for the platform, stating, “Vilpa Max is a bridge where talented new voices and Oscar- and Cannes-winning films come together under one roof. We are committed to creating cultural impact and providing opportunities for filmmakers to showcase their work and gain recognition.”

In addition to leading Vilpa Films, Alejandro is an internationally published author across Mexico, Latin America, and Spain. His production company is known for its collaborations on award-winning projects, and he is also a member of the Forbes Business Council. Previously, he worked in script development at Caledonia Productions, the US arm of Aeon Productions, which is famously linked to the James Bond franchise.

In 2025, Vilpa produced and filmed the short The Undertone, directed by David Jansen, in Prague, with support from the Czech Ministry of Culture and the Mexican Embassy. This project was featured in the Cannes Film Festival 2025 production catalogue, as Vilpa collaborated with Celsius Entertainment for the sales and distribution of upcoming releases.

With Vilpa Max, Alejandro Vilpa is not only promoting short films but also paving the way for emerging filmmakers to gain visibility and support on an international scale.
