The cinema industry in West Africa experienced remarkable growth in 2025, achieving total box-office revenue of US$10 million from film releases across the region.
This data, gathered by FilmOne Entertainment, indicates that 2.79 million moviegoers attended cinemas in 2025, with 248 new films screened across 122 theatres in West Africa.
A scorecard shared on the film’s official Instagram account on Tuesday revealed that 16 films surpassed US$140,253, while 14 Nollywood titles grossed over US$70,126.
The average ticket price for movies in 2025 was set at US$3.92.
Leading the box office, “Behind The Scenes” was named the highest-grossing Nollywood film, and FilmOne Entertainment was recognised as the top distributor of the year.
Other notable performances included “Zootopia 2,” which topped the animation category; “Sinners,” the highest-grossing Hollywood film; and “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle,” which led the anime category.
Additionally, the data highlighted that Nollywood films captured 49.4% of the market share, closely trailed by Hollywood at 48.8%. Films from China and Liberia contributed a modest 1.2%.
In terms of volume, 81 Nollywood films, 92 Hollywood productions, and 52 Indian titles were released throughout the year, showcasing a wide array of content for audiences.
These figures reflect a burgeoning cinema culture and a growing enthusiasm for both local and international narratives.
