Eutelsat In Partnership To Secure Satellite Licence For HUSAT Programme

4iG Space and Defence Technologies (4iG SDT) has entered into a significant Geostationary Orbit and Frequency Licence Agreement with Eutelsat, securing vital orbital positioning and frequency rights for the HUGEO satellite, a key component of Hungary’s HUSAT programme. This agreement represents a pivotal advancement for the project, following a binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two organisations in August 2025.

Under this agreement, Eutelsat will grant 4iG SDT an exclusive 15-year licence for a specified geostationary orbital slot and its associated frequency resources, enabling 4iG SDT to operate the HUGEO satellite upon its launch. While the specific details regarding the orbital position, frequency allocations, and coverage areas remain confidential, this agreement positions Hungary to enter the realm of independent satellite operations.

István Sárhegyi, CEO of 4iG Space and Defence Technologies Zrt, highlighted, “Our partnership with Eutelsat represents a significant milestone for the HUSAT satellite programme, reinforcing the 4iG Group’s status as a technology leader in the region. This contract also emphasises Hungary’s aspirations in the space industry and satellite initiatives, which global leaders acknowledge.”

Eutelsat, boasting more than 40 years of experience in satellite communications, manages a fleet that includes 34 geostationary satellites and around 600 low Earth orbit satellites, while working in alignment with international and French regulatory bodies. The alliance with 4iG reinforces Eutelsat’s dedication to enhancing global satellite infrastructure and communications services.

The HUSAT programme is the largest privately funded satellite initiative in Hungary and across Central and Eastern Europe. Its goal is to establish a strong national satellite capacity by launching and operating one geostationary telecommunications satellite (HUGEO) alongside eight high-resolution Earth observation satellites (HULEO) in low Earth orbit by 2032. Upon completion, 4iG SDT will continue to manage the satellite constellation.

This enduring collaboration between 4iG SDT and Eutelsat positions Hungary as an emerging player in the European space sector and marks a substantial stride in national technological progress. In addition to enhancing Hungary’s space capabilities, this partnership reinforces the 4iG Group’s digital sovereignty and enhances its ability to provide next-generation telecommunications and Earth observation services throughout the region.
