New “Doctor Who” Animated Series For Preschoolers In Development – According To The BBC

The BBC is gearing up to broaden the Doctor Who universe with an innovative animated series designed specifically for preschool children on CBeebies. Amid ongoing discussions about the show’s future and Disney’s role, this new venture promises to introduce the beloved franchise to younger audiences.

Patricia Hidalgo, the Director of Children’s and Education at BBC, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Everyone is welcome at CBeebies, including the Doctor. This beloved franchise captivates millions globally, so our younger viewers should get to enjoy the wonder and magic of the Doctor in a fresh format. We are eager to collaborate with companies on this thrilling opportunity as we strengthen our investment in the UK’s animation sector.”

Though the Doctor Who series has featured several animated specials—for instance, 2003’s Scream of the Shalka, 2007’s The Infinite Quest, and 2009’s Dreamland—this initiative will be the first complete animated series within the historic franchise.

Currently in the early stages of development, the CBeebies series invites pitches from production companies to create a show that will take young viewers on adventures through time and space. The Doctor will solve mysteries and challenges alongside friends and companions, ensuring an engaging experience for the preschool audience.
