BMA’s Summit On “Audiences And Advertising” Will Unveil New Growth And Monetisation Strategies

June 11, 2025

A A

Growing and successfully monetising have become pivotal priorities for Africa’s broadcast media industry as it navigates a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

As digital platforms expand and competition intensifies, broadcasters and digital media publishers are rethinking how to attract, engage, and retain audiences while exploring innovative strategies to generate sustainable revenues.

Industry stakeholders are confronting critical challenges as the continent’s media ecosystem undergoes rapid transformation—driven by shifting consumption habits, digital disruption, and rising demand for personalised, on-demand content. These include audience fragmentation, declining traditional ad revenues, and inconsistent measurement frameworks, all of which make it harder for broadcasters and advertisers to optimise engagement and media investment.

At the same time, infrastructure disparities continue to hamper the adoption of hybrid and digital-first content models in many regions. Limited access to reliable broadband, underdeveloped audience analytics systems, and a lack of innovation funding further restrict the sector’s ability to pivot toward scalable digital solutions. The absence of collaborative regulatory frameworks between public and private players also inhibits cohesive progress across the industry.

To address these challenges, the Advertising and Audiences Summit will spotlight actionable strategies tailored to Africa’s unique market realities.

These include strengthening digital infrastructure and broadband access to support inclusive broadcasting; harmonising audience measurement systems to enhance accuracy and build advertiser confidence; implementing platform-agnostic content delivery models that reach audiences across TV, radio, mobile, and online platforms; fostering partnerships between broadcasters, telecom operators, advertisers, and technology providers to accelerate innovation; and building capacity among media professionals in data analytics, programmatic advertising, and creative monetisation techniques.

Commenting on the importance of the topic, Benjamin Pius, Publisher of Broadcast Media Africa, said:

“Sustainable audience growth and monetisation are essential for the future of broadcasting in Africa. At the Advertising and Audiences Summit, we aim to provide practical strategies tailored to African realities while embracing global innovations.”

Broadcast Media Africa (BMA) is set to host the Advertising and Audiences Summit—Africa 2025 on 16–17 September 2025 in Johannesburg. The Summit will bring together leading broadcasters, content publishers, advertisers, digital innovators, and audience measurement specialists. The highly anticipated Summit will provide a platform to explore effective, future-ready strategies for expanding audience reach and unlocking sustainable monetisation models across Africa’s rapidly evolving broadcast and media landscape.
