Broadcast Media Africa has learnt that Documentary Africa has launched the Shoot Your Short initiative, which provides grants to support short-form documentary content. Grants up to US$5,000 will be awarded.

Eligible applicants must have completed at least one previous film and commit to completing the short film within a year of receiving the grant.

In addition to the financial grant, selected filmmakers will receive mentorship and guidance from industry professionals to help them bring their vision to life. This mentorship can be invaluable for filmmakers looking to hone their craft and gain insights into the world of documentary filmmaking.

The initiative is a great opportunity for filmmakers to explore important stories, issues, and themes in a concise and impactful format. With the increasing demand for short-form content in today’s digital landscape, the initiative provides a timely opportunity for filmmakers to make their mark and reach a global audience.

For African filmmakers passionate about documentary filmmaking, the Shoot Your Short initiative represents a unique opportunity to bring their creative ideas to fruition and contribute to the rich cinematic landscape of Africa.

The deadline for the submission of application is October 2, 2024.
