BMA Webinar: African Broadcasters Explore The Future Of IP, Cloud And Virtualised Infrastructure

October 20, 2026

As broadcasters across Africa and beyond accelerate their transition towards more flexible, software-driven production and distribution environments, the role of Internet Protocol (IP), cloud technologies and virtualised infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. These developments will take centre stage at the upcoming Broadcast Media Facilities And Systems Management webinar, scheduled for Tuesday, 3 November 2026.

Convened by Broadcast Media Africa (BMA), the webinar will bring together broadcast technology professionals, engineers, systems integrators and industry stakeholders to explore how emerging infrastructure models are transforming the design, operation and management of broadcast facilities. The discussion will examine the opportunities and practical considerations associated with moving from traditional hardware-dependent systems towards IP-based workflows, cloud-enabled operations and virtualised broadcast environments.

The adoption of IP infrastructure is creating new possibilities for broadcasters to connect production systems, streamline signal routing and improve operational flexibility. At the same time, cloud-based platforms and virtualised systems are opening up alternative approaches to resource management, remote production, scalability and business continuity. However, realising these benefits requires careful planning around network performance, interoperability, cybersecurity, latency, resilience and the skills needed to manage increasingly software-defined environments.

For African broadcasters, these developments present both opportunities and challenges. As media organisations respond to changing audience expectations, tighter operational budgets and the growing demand for multi-platform content delivery, decisions about infrastructure investment are becoming increasingly strategic. Understanding how IP, cloud and virtualisation can be integrated into existing facilities will be essential to modernising operations while maintaining reliability, quality of service and control over critical broadcast assets.

Commenting on the importance of the discussion, Mr Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa, said:

“IP, cloud and virtualised technologies are fundamentally changing how broadcast facilities are designed, operated and managed. For broadcasters, the conversation is no longer simply about adopting new technology; it is about building infrastructure that is more agile, resilient, scalable and fit for the future. African broadcasters must understand both the opportunities and the operational implications of these technologies to make informed investment decisions and remain competitive in an increasingly connected media environment.”

The webinar will provide a platform for industry participants to exchange perspectives on the evolving requirements of broadcast facilities and systems management, with particular attention to the practical realities of implementing and maintaining modern infrastructure. It will also encourage discussion on how broadcasters can balance innovation with operational stability, cost efficiency and long-term sustainability.

The Broadcast Media Facilities And Systems Management webinar forms part of BMA’s ongoing engagement with the broadcast and media technology community, supporting knowledge-sharing and industry dialogue on the technical and operational developments shaping the future of broadcasting.
