As broadcasters across Africa modernise their facilities and transition to IP-based, cloud-enabled, and hybrid production environments, cybersecurity and infrastructure protection are becoming essential to operational resilience, service continuity, and the long-term sustainability of media operations.
The growing integration of broadcast networks, IT systems, cloud platforms and connected production technologies is creating new opportunities for efficiency and innovation. However, it is also expanding the potential attack surface for cyber threats, system disruptions, data breaches and malicious interference that could compromise broadcast services and audience trust.
These challenges will take centre stage at the upcoming Broadcast Media Facilities and Systems Management webinar, taking place online on Tuesday, 03 November 2026, convened by Broadcast Media Africa (BMA).
Under the focus area of Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Protection, the webinar will examine how broadcasters can strengthen the security of their technical environments while balancing digital transformation with the practical realities of managing ageing infrastructure, limited budgets and increasingly complex systems.
Discussions will explore practical approaches to protecting critical broadcast infrastructure, securing interconnected networks and improving the monitoring, maintenance and management of facilities and systems. Particular attention will be given to the need for broadcasters to build resilience against cyber threats while ensuring the reliability and continuity of essential media services.
The forum will also address the broader responsibilities of broadcasters, regulators, technology providers and governments in strengthening cybersecurity across Africa’s media ecosystem. As artificial intelligence introduces new risks, including deepfakes, misinformation, and malicious content manipulation, participants will consider how media organisations can better detect threats, protect content integrity, and maintain public confidence.
A key consideration will be how broadcasters can implement cost-effective security measures without compromising operational performance or delaying necessary technology upgrades. From strengthening network protection and improving system visibility to adopting proactive risk management practices, the discussion will focus on practical strategies that can be applied across different broadcast environments.
The webinar forms part of BMA’s ongoing engagement with the African broadcasting industry on the technologies, systems and operational strategies shaping the future of media infrastructure. It will bring together professionals from broadcast engineering, technical operations, facilities management, IT and infrastructure to exchange perspectives on building more secure, efficient and resilient broadcast environments.
As the industry continues to embrace digital-first workflows and connected technologies, protecting broadcast infrastructure is no longer solely a technical responsibility. It is a strategic priority that underpins business continuity, audience trust, and broadcasters’ ability to deliver reliable services in an increasingly digital media landscape.
