Beirut-based content production, licensing and Arabic localisation company Union Media s.a.r.l. has licensed its animated series Science Voyagers to beIN Media Group for broadcast across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

The 30-episode series, with each episode running 10 minutes, is airing on beIN’s children’s channel Jeem TV. The Arabic-language production premiered on 6 September and is broadcast daily from Sunday to Thursday at 16:30 MECCA.

Produced by Union Media, Science Voyagers follows Shihab, a schoolboy who has become disengaged from his studies, and his talking parrot Fahmi. Their adventures begin when Fahmi introduces Shihab to a magical watch that enables them to travel through time.

The series takes the characters to historic centres of scientific and intellectual achievement, including the House of Wisdom in Baghdad and the observatories and gardens of Andalusia.

Across the episodes, young viewers are introduced to the work of influential scholars from the region, including Al-Khwarizmi, Ibn al-Haytham, Al-Zahrawi, Al-Razi, Maryam Al-Astrulabi, Omar Khayyam, Ibn Sina and Ibn al-Nafis.

Their contributions to mathematics, optics, medicine, astronomy and other disciplines are presented through animated storytelling aimed at making scientific history accessible to children and families.

Hassan Krayem, founder and CEO of Union Media, said the company was pleased to bring the series to children and families through Jeem TV, describing the production as an effort to make the region’s scientific achievements engaging and accessible through storytelling and animation.

Science Voyagers is based on a concept by Krayem, with a script by Mohamed Adly and direction by Amer Salah. The series features an original score by Sherif El Wessimi and is produced by Union Media.

The agreement gives Union Media’s original Arabic children’s content broader distribution across MENA while placing regional scientific and intellectual heritage at the centre of a locally produced animated series.
