Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation has lifted the suspension of sports programme Al-Bulldozer, allowing the show presented by Magdi Abdel Ghani to return to Al-Shams TV on 3 October.
The decision follows an on-air dispute during the programme’s 19 September episode and separates the programme’s reinstatement from sanctions imposed on two of its regular contributors, Rabie Yassin and Osama Hassan.
The Council has barred Yassin and Hassan from appearing on any Egyptian media outlet for one month, with the sanction running from 19 September. Their restrictions therefore remain in place when Al-Bulldozer returns to air, meaning the programme will resume without the two contributors.
According to the Council, the decision followed a joint recommendation from its complaints committee and sports media performance monitoring committee, under Egypt’s Press and Media Regulation Law 180 of 2018.
No decision number was published alongside the announcement.
The case adds to a series of recent enforcement actions by Egypt’s media regulator, with the Council having issued four measures in less than two weeks.
The latest decision also illustrates an enforcement approach in which sanctions can be directed at individual media personalities rather than resulting in the continued suspension of an entire programme. In this case, the programme’s broadcast schedule remains intact while restrictions are imposed on the individuals involved in the incident.
For broadcasters and programme producers, the distinction is significant: regulatory action can affect individual contributors independently of a programme’s permission to remain on air.
