Jordan is strengthening its relationship with China’s film and media industries through two new agreements aimed at increasing production, co-production and industry exchanges between the two countries.
The Royal Film Commission: Jordan (RFC) signed Memoranda of Understanding with the China Film Administration and China Media Group (CMG) during His Majesty King Abdullah II’s visit to China.
The agreements create new opportunities for cooperation across film, television and the wider audiovisual sector, covering areas including production and co-production, content exchange, distribution, professional training, festivals and market development.
A key focus is attracting more Chinese productions to Jordan.
Through the agreements, the RFC will promote the Kingdom as a filming destination by showcasing its diverse locations, experienced production crews, local services and incentives available to international productions.
The Commission will also help connect Chinese filmmakers and production companies with Jordanian producers, crews and other industry professionals.
The agreement with the China Film Administration places particular emphasis on film production and co-production, distribution, content exchange, training and seminars, film festivals and education. It also encourages joint projects and greater professional engagement between filmmakers and industry specialists from both countries.
The partnership with China Media Group extends cooperation beyond film to television and other forms of media content. It includes opportunities for co-production and content exchange, technology and promotional initiatives, professional exchanges and market development.
The agreement also provides for cooperation in promoting Jordan’s cultural and tourism attractions, including its filming locations and production capabilities.
For Jordan’s film industry, attracting more Chinese productions could bring additional investment and create opportunities for local crews, producers and production service companies. It could also help Jordanian professionals build longer-term relationships with Chinese counterparts.
The agreements build on several years of engagement between the RFC and China’s film industry. The Commission has previously held discussions with Chinese officials, film institutions, producers and industry professionals to explore opportunities for collaboration.
In June 2026, the RFC participated for the first time in the Shanghai International Film Festival, using the event to promote Jordan as a filming destination and establish connections with Chinese filmmakers and industry institutions.
Jordan has also joined the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance, a China-led network of film festivals and institutions from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. The membership provides another avenue for film exchanges and closer institutional cooperation.
Mohannad Al Bakri, Managing Director of the RFC, said China represents an important opportunity for the growth and international development of Jordan’s film industry.
He said the Commission had been working to build relationships with Chinese institutions and industry professionals while promoting Jordan’s locations, talent and production capabilities.
The RFC will now work to turn the new agreements into practical opportunities by helping Chinese productions interested in filming in Jordan connect with local producers, crews and service providers.
The agreements add momentum to the growing film relationship between Jordan and China, while positioning audiovisual production as a route to greater cultural, creative and economic cooperation.
