AfroCinema, a dedicated African movie channel, has launched on Channelbox, giving UK audiences access to a 24-hour lineup of films from across Africa and its diaspora.

The channel is available on Freeview channel 271 through Channelbox, offering viewers a selection of African cinema spanning Nollywood productions and films from across the continent.

AfroCinema’s programming includes dramas, romantic films, action titles, comedies and royal-themed productions, providing a broad showcase of African storytelling and filmmaking talent.

The launch forms part of Channelbox’s continued expansion of its free-to-air, multi-channel OTT offering in the UK. Available through Freeview channel 271 and Channelbox-enabled television sets connected to both an aerial and the internet, the platform provides access to more than 70 channels and supports FAST channel monetisation.

Tanya Kronfli, Head of Business Development at Channelbox, said the addition of AfroCinema strengthens the platform’s multicultural content offering and helps broaden its appeal to diverse audiences across the UK.

“Channelbox is committed to celebrating diversity in genre, culture and language,” said Kronfli. “We are delighted to welcome AfroCinema to our platform. Their rich selection of African films enhances our Freeview offering and strengthens our connection with multicultural audiences across the UK.”

Raufu Onigbogi, Chief Executive Officer at AfroCinema, said the launch represents an important milestone for the channel as it seeks to bring African cinema to a wider international audience.

“We are delighted to launch on Channelbox and to reach UK audiences through such a well-established platform,” said Onigbogi. “This is an exciting milestone for us, and we look forward to sharing the very best of African cinema with viewers across the country.”

The launch reflects the continued international growth of African film and television content, as streaming and FAST platforms create new distribution opportunities for African producers and channels seeking to reach audiences beyond the continent.
