RunnTV, a rapidly emerging Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) platform in India, has recently launched Openview Stream, marking the first independent FAST streaming service in Africa in collaboration with eMedia Investments. This initiative represents RunnTV’s strategic foray into Africa, a region recognised for its burgeoning digital television market.
Openview Stream is designed as an extension of eMedia Investments’ offerings, blending their extensive content library and established entertainment brands with RunnTV’s advanced streaming technology and expertise in FAST platforms. The goal of this new service is to provide viewers with a free, ad-supported streaming experience featuring a mix of regional programming and international FAST channels.
Currently, Openview Stream is in its initial phase across several African countries, including Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, and Mauritius, with plans to expand into additional markets in the near future.
The launch comes at a pivotal moment, as Africa witnesses a surge in smart TV ownership, improvements in broadband connectivity, and increased digital video consumption, creating substantial opportunities for free streaming services. Openview Stream aims to foster a sustainable ecosystem that benefits viewers, broadcasters, advertisers, and content creators through its accessible, advertising-funded model.
In addition, the platform is committed to enhancing digital distribution channels for African broadcasters and content creators, enabling them to expand their reach on mobile devices and Connected TVs while generating new advertising revenue through long-term collaborations.
Openview Stream is curated to prioritise regional relevance and premium entertainment, offering a diverse selection of African and international channels while remaining free for viewers.
Manish Sinha, Founder & CEO of RunnTV, commented on the launch, stating, “Africa represents one of the most promising growth markets in the television landscape. With Openview Stream, we aim to provide a locally relevant and high-quality FAST experience that connects viewers with engaging content while supporting African broadcasters and content owners in reaching wider audiences across mobile and Connected TV platforms. Partnering with eMedia Investments, known for its deep audience insights and strong media brands, positions us well to significantly scale Openview Stream throughout the continent.”
Khalik Sheriff, Group CEO of eMedia Investments, added, “The African television industry is at the brink of transformation as audiences increasingly adopt connected and streaming platforms. Openview Stream marks a crucial step in this shift, offering a blend of African narratives, trusted entertainment, and cost-free access, all in one digital space. Through our collaboration with RunnTV, we are merging local market insights with reliable FAST technology to unlock new opportunities for broadcasters, creators, and advertisers while providing audiences across Africa with access to quality content.”
Looking forward, both companies intend to broaden Openview Stream’s channel lineup, content partnerships, and geographical presence across Africa. Leveraging eMedia Investments’ regional media expertise and RunnTV’s FAST capabilities, the platform aims to establish itself as a premier independent ad-supported streaming destination, connecting African audiences with local broadcasters, creators, and global entertainment brands through a unified digital platform.
