In an exciting development for African viewers, CANAL+ and Samsung Electronics have announced an expansion of their partnership to include English- and Portuguese-speaking regions served by the MultiChoice Group. This collaboration will bring the DStv Stream app pre-installed on new Samsung Smart TVs, marking the first time this has occurred in these markets.

Samsung Smart TVs sold across 18 African countries—including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Angola, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—will come with the DStv Stream app already loaded. This initiative builds upon an existing partnership between CANAL+ and Samsung, which has successfully been operating in 40 markets across Europe, French-speaking Africa, and Asia.

The pre-loaded app will provide Samsung TV owners direct access to an extensive catalogue of DStv Stream content. Viewers will have the opportunity to enjoy major events such as the full FIFA World Cup 2026, English Premier League matches, domestic and international rugby, and a diverse array of local and international entertainment.

This rollout represents a significant commercial achievement as CANAL+ integrates with MultiChoice Group, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed pay-TV and streaming giant now under CANAL+’s control. The company aims to enhance the accessibility of MultiChoice’s content on connected devices, catering to a growing trend of viewership shifting towards smart TVs and streaming services across the continent.

David Mignot, CEO of CANAL+ Africa and MultiChoice Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s growth. “We are thrilled to expand our longstanding relationship with Samsung into new English and Portuguese-speaking markets,” he stated. “This marks a pivotal moment in maximising from the fusion of CANAL+ and MultiChoice Group. As viewing habits rapidly evolve, enhancing the accessibility of our content on connected devices is vital.”

With a subscriber base exceeding 40 million across various platforms, CANAL+ operates in over 70 countries worldwide. Alongside its pay-TV and streaming services, the group encompasses MultiChoice Group, STUDIOCANAL, the video platform Dailymotion, and telecom operations in Africa and French overseas territories. Meanwhile, MultiChoice serves millions through its entertainment offerings and has diversified into sectors such as sports betting, fintech, and ed-tech. At the same time, its technology division, Irdeto, offers cybersecurity solutions for a wide range of devices worldwide.
