Lesotho is poised to enhance its digital transformation strategy by utilising established frameworks from Vodacom’s extensive African operations.

This initiative comes on the heels of a visit by a Vodacom Group delegation to the Mountain Kingdom, representing a significant step forward in a public-private partnership aimed at accelerating the government’s ambitious digitisation plan.

Led by ICT Minister Nthati Moorosi, the government is committed to advancing digital transformation in Lesotho.

Mohamed Abdallah, CEO of Vodafone Egypt and the newly appointed head of International Markets, led the Vodacom delegation. He was accompanied by Ayman Essam, Chief Officer of Regulatory and External Affairs for the Vodacom Group, along with the leadership team from Vodacom Lesotho, including CEO Mohale Ralebitso and Head of Regulatory Affairs Tšepo Ntaopane.

During discussions, Moorosi emphasised the urgent need for infrastructure conducive to e-governance, financial inclusion, and improved public service delivery, reiterating the government’s dedication to realising a “Digital Lesotho.”

“The group engaged in fruitful discussions regarding digital partnerships during this visit. Vodacom is prepared to support the Lesotho government in its digitisation efforts, mirroring the cooperative success seen in Kenya and Egypt,” remarked the ministry.

The partnership is anticipated to provide the technical framework for the Lesotho government to modernise its systems, leveraging Vodacom’s successful experience in its international operations.
