BMA Feature: Nigerian Engineer Unveils Locally-Made Armoured Vehicle To Strengthen Security Efforts

In a remarkable display of local innovation, Nigerian engineer Ibrahim Lawal Dankaba has developed a fully homegrown armoured personnel carrier, named the “Begua”, designed to withstand the challenging terrains and security threats common in the Sahel region.

In the video report Dankaba and his team work in their Katsina workshop, carrying out the final touches on the Begua — from welding to metal reinforcement — as the vehicle nears completion.

Dankaba explained that the motivation behind the project was the urgent need for a robust, locally adaptable security solution capable of addressing the realities of conflict-prone areas. “Security is our collective responsibility,” he said, expressing hope that the initiative would help curb criminality, revive local business, and foster education and economic growth.

The video report captures a glimpse of Nigerian ingenuity in motion, a local team building practical solutions to safeguard their communities. The Begua armoured vehicle is expected to support community and regional security operations, offering a homegrown response to the ongoing challenges posed by armed groups, often referred to locally as “bandits,” across northwestern Nigeria.
