Primedia Studios has named Bongumusa Makhathini as its new CEO. Jan du Plessis will continue in his role as president of Primedia Studios, with both individuals reporting directly to Jonathan Procter, the CEO of Primedia Group.

In addition to his new responsibilities at Primedia Studios, Bongumusa Makhathini, who previously served as the chairperson of the SABC board, will maintain his position overseeing Primedia OOH, having been appointed as CEO of Primedia Outdoor in January 2023.

As the CEO of Primedia Studios, Makhathini will manage studio operations, handle distribution agreements, lead sponsorship initiatives, and strategically position content for domestic and international markets.

Jan du Plessis expresses enthusiasm for collaborating with Makhathini, stating, “I am excited to work alongside Bongumusa, whose leadership and vision will be essential in bringing our stories to life. Together, we have an incredible opportunity to share the creative richness of Africa globally, and I am dedicated to ensuring that our content reflects that depth.”

Makhathini emphasises the global readiness for African narratives, asserting, “It is our duty to tell these stories authentically and powerfully.” He adds, “This is a crucial moment for Primedia Studios, and I look forward to leading our team in crafting impactful content that resonates across cultures.”

Jonathan Procter notes, “We are entering a transformative phase for Primedia Studios. The creative potential of Africa is enormous, and with Jan and Bongumusa at the helm, we are well-positioned to harness the energy of this creative industry, delivering compelling stories to a global digital audience that has been underserved by content from our continent.”

Procter also remarks, “Their combined expertise will be vital in enhancing our content offerings in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.”

As Primedia Studios embarks on this significant journey, they invite collaborators, creators, and audiences alike to celebrate the rich diversity of African narratives ready to be shared with the world. Together, they aim to elevate the voices of the continent and showcase the remarkable talent that defines Africa’s creative industries.
