BBC Studios Teams Up With Banijay Asia For Exclusive Format Adaptation In India

BBC Studios has announced the end of its local production efforts in India, entering into an exclusive multi-year partnership with Banijay Asia to adapt its television formats for the Indian audience.

Under this new agreement, Banijay Asia gains exclusive rights to BBC Studios’ extensive catalogue of unscripted and scripted formats within India. The partnership will officially begin after BBC Studios fulfils its ongoing regional production commitments.

Once a key player in the Indian market with successful adaptations such as “Criminal Justice” and “The Office,” BBC Studios aimed to connect British storytelling with Indian cultural nuances.

Banijay Asia, a collaboration between Banijay Entertainment and its founder-CEO Deepak Dhar, plans to utilize its local expertise to infuse BBC’s formats with an Indian essence tailored for various broadcasters and streaming services. The company has a proven track record in adapting formats, previously introducing popular shows like “Masterchef,” “Big Brother,” and “Temptation Island” to viewers in India.
