Broadcast Media Africa has learnt that Agnes Gathaiya, Google’s country director responsible for East Africa, has left the firm after more than four years.

Gathaiya revealed that she was quitting the tech giant to pursue other opportunities.

She said: “My journey at Google has been a profound experience, filled with learning, growth, and impactful contributions. Working alongside a talented and inspiring group of Googlers dedicated to transforming the continent through digitization has been an absolute honour.”

Gathaiya, based in Nairobi, Kenya, handled significant initiatives such as Google for Education, Google My Business, Hustle Academy, and the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program, among others.

During her stay, she helped shape Google’s footprint in key markets, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia.

“I am immensely grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and proud of our accomplishments as a region fully supported by amazing colleagues worldwide. We drove 8X commercial growth, enhanced Google’s brand and reputation in the market, and fostered a culture of camaraderie, trust, and well-being within our rapidly growing team,” she said.

Prior to joining Google, Agnes had executive positions at Integrated Payment Services Limited, Deloitte Consulting, SAP, Chase Bank, and Safaricom.
