South Africa: Vodacom Launches New 4G And 5G Base Stations In Limpopo

Vodacom has recently launched 10 new base station sites, comprising two 5G and eight 4G LTE networks, aimed at enhancing connectivity for numerous residents in Malamulele, Polokwane, Lebowakgomo, Burgersfort, and Hoedspruit who previously faced limited access to telecommunications services.

This expansion significantly improves connectivity for individuals in rural areas, villages, and townships, providing access to the latest and fastest network technologies.

“Ensuring network connectivity in remote locations is a vital part of Vodacom’s mission to enhance coverage for those living in the deepest rural regions of the country,” a Vodacom representative stated.

“This initiative aligns with Vodacom’s vision to connect everyone—whether in urban areas, townships, or rural communities—which necessitates substantial investment.”

Omphile Mosegedi, Executive Head for Operations at Vodacom Limpopo, emphasized the importance of breaking down barriers. “Our goal is to empower citizens in the province’s rural and township areas to experience network quality comparable to their urban counterparts.”

“Practically, this means delivering faster data services to tens of thousands of residents relying solely on voice and EDGE data services. Moreover, these upgrades have enhanced network capacity, voice quality, and mobile data speeds.”

The launch of the new base stations in Limpopo follows Vodacom’s being named the top mobile voice network in Gauteng by MyBroadband Insights.

MyBroadband Insights evaluated the performance of the four major mobile voice networks in South Africa based on critical performance indicators such as Call Setup Time, Call Setup Success Ratio, Dropped Call Ratio, and Speech Quality Mean Opinion Score.

Vodacom emerged as the top performer in Gauteng with an impressive overall score of 88.4. It achieved the fastest Call Setup Time at just 1.26 seconds and a perfect 100% Call Setup Success Ratio.
